Our Story

Education as Resource

At the core of the idea of the Joe Odey Agi Foundation is the recognition that education in every sense is one of the fundamental factors of development. No country can achieve sustainable economic development without substantial investment in human capital. Education enriches people’s understanding of themselves, their environment and the world. It improves the quality of their lives and leads to broad social benefits to individuals and society. Education raises people’s productivity and creativity and promotes entrepreneurship and technological advances. In addition, it plays a crucial role in securing economic and social progress, improving income distribution and facilitating individual’s social mobility in the society. Central to this position is the indisputable fact that everyone in a given socio-economic and political environment has an innate ability to unlock their fullest potential, no matter what educational and career pathways they go through
It is in appreciation of these facts that the founder of the Foundation, Chief Joe Odey Agi, SAN has decided that promising and academically ambitious youths in the State, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds, should be availed the necessary financial support to enable them develop their intellectual and creative capacities to their optimum potentials. Having been so graciously blessed by the Almighty God, and cognizant of the severe economic hardship an average family experiences in Cross River State, setting up a charity to support university education of young people is the founder’s way of giving back to the society.
